Co. Antrim

Co. Antrim:

The Kelly's were seated in the territory called Clanbrassel Mac Coolethan. These Kellys were described in an old manuscript as living "in a very fast country of wood and bog". "These Kellies are a very savage and barbarous people and given all together to spoils and robberies". The writer of this manuscript obviously was no friend of the Kellys. The Kellys have continued to live in Co. Antrim since then, though due to the same ravages as occurred in Co. Derry, they suffered severely. From this stock arose people like Sir Basil Kelly, retired Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, and Ossin Kelly, the great Irish Sculptor.
