Luke Wadding (1588 - 1657), a Waterford man, was the founder of S. Isidore’ as an Irish house in Rome in the year 1625.
Through his influence in the Vatican, he was responsible for having S. Patrick inserted in the universal calendar of the Church. The feast of S. Patrick was celebrated with great solemnity during Wadding’s time as founder of S. Isidore. He died in 1657. So it suggests sometime during 1625 - 1657 that S. Patrick’s feast day was first celebrated most probably in the earlier years of Waddings influence.
Another first for the Franciscans.
