NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTION
MY name is sean kelly, living in manchester uk having arrived here in 1966 from Armagh and now settling into my retirement.I was the youngest of four and the only boy so it was up to me to carry on the kelly name and i have 3 sons and one daughter.I now am blessed with a grandson and granddaughter so i thought it would be nice to try and research the family history for their sake as well as my own.Obviously having been born in IRELAND and lived their with my parents until i was 18 i have knowledge of cousins etc. aunts.uncles and grandparents. My mother was a Sloan from Killowen co down and a fantastic research has already been done by one of my sloan cousins. My sister in law has completed the same for my wife Janets family---O CONNOR--- so im hoping to repeat for the KELLYS.
The main reason ive joined the clan is hoping that there is someone out there who may be able to help in my search for more information as ive searched the net,the census, the tithe applotments etc. and im now at a standstill although im just about to go to Ireland to continue searching.
My great grandfather was a Myles kelly lived in Listarkelt, derrynoose, keady co Armagh and married anne Smallon around 1850.Thomas one of their children was my grandfather although passed away long before i was born.Iknow from will abstracts that Myles died in 1898 aged 90 which then means he was born around 1808. i know from ages that the wedding was probably around 1850.I have difficulty confirming where they were born and really struggling with the name smallon although it is very clear on baptismal records.
any info would be great
About me now, well i am retired a few years although my retirement date was may 2012, i always worked as an administrator in the construction industry in manchester,accountant,training,h/s, quality assurance all that sort of thing and i am a big fan of manchester united as are my sons and grandson. i still retain my interest in the gaelic games at home and was lucky enough to be in croke park when armagh won their first ever all ireland title.
My wife JANET IS FROM MANCHESTER and was a qualified nurse before we got married and then she became a full time mum at home bringing up the four children for that i am forever grateful.
Hopefully this hasnt been too boring and long but i wasnt sure what way to tackle it.
thank you for reading it
